Remove black bars in IPTV: picture format Fit or Fill

Why black bars appear around a film or a channel, and how to remove them in one gesture with the Picture format option — Fit or Fill screen.

You start a film on your phone and a black bar sits on each side of the picture. You switch to a channel on the TV and the image no longer reaches the edges. To remove black bars in IPTV, you do not need to change your source: you need the right picture format. Klyvo Play offers two, Fit and Fill screen, and switching takes one gesture.

Klyvo Play is a player. It does not provide any channel, film or series: you connect the Xtream-compatible service you already use and are authorized to use.

Why black bars appear

A picture has a shape, its aspect ratio, and so does your screen. When the two differ, something has to give. Typical cases:

  • A 16:9 film on a modern phone. Most phones are much wider than 16:9 once held sideways, so a bar appears on the left and on the right.
  • An older 4:3 channel on a TV. The picture is narrower than the screen: bars on both sides.
  • A widescreen film on any screen. Many films are wider than 16:9, which leaves bars at the top and bottom.

These bars are not a fault of the stream or of the app: they are the space left over when the whole picture is shown without being deformed.

The two picture formats: Fit and Fill screen

In Klyvo Play, the option is called Picture format and offers two choices:

  • Fit (the default): the whole picture is visible. If the ratios differ, black bars fill the rest of the screen.
  • Fill screen: the picture is enlarged until no bar is left. It is never stretched or deformed — instead, the edges that go past the screen are cropped.

There is deliberately no "stretch" mode: a deformed picture makes faces wider and circles oval. Fill screen gives you a full screen while keeping proportions right.

Change the picture format on a phone or tablet

On iPhone, iPad and Android, you have two ways to change the picture format while a film, an episode or a live channel is playing:

  1. Pinch the picture. Spread two fingers apart on the video to switch to Fill screen; bring them together to go back to Fit. A one-finger tap still shows or hides the controls.
  2. Use the key in the top bar. Tap the screen to show the controls, then the format key: it switches between Fit and Fill screen in one tap.

Each change shows a short notice on screen with the mode you just picked, so you always know where you are. For films and episodes, the same choice is also in the Quality sheet, under Picture format.

Change the picture format on a TV or on Windows

On Apple TV, Fire TV and in the Windows app, everything is done with the remote or the keyboard arrows:

  • Live TV: press OK to show the overlay and select Picture format — the button also shows the current mode. A panel opens on the right; choose Fit or Fill screen.
  • Films and series: show the controls, select Quality, and pick the format in the Picture format column, next to quality and speed.

Your choice is remembered

The picture format is one setting for the whole device. Pick Fill screen once and it applies to live channels, films and series alike, and it is still there the next time you open the app. A change made in one player applies everywhere at once.

Two places keep Fit on purpose: the small mini-player on a phone, and the panes of Multi-Live, where a cropped quarter of the picture would hide too much.

Which format should you choose?

  • Choose Fit for content with text or scores near the edges, or when you want to see exactly what was filmed.
  • Choose Fill screen to use the whole screen of a wide phone, or to remove the side bars of a narrow channel on a TV.

If a picture looks too cropped in Fill screen, simply pinch back or switch to Fit: nothing is lost, and you can change again at any time.

FAQ

Does Fill screen lower the picture quality? No. The picture is only enlarged to cover the screen; the stream and its resolution do not change. The edges beyond the screen are simply not shown.

Why do I still see bars in Fit? That is what Fit does: it shows the whole picture, and the bars fill the space where the picture's shape differs from your screen. Switch to Fill screen to remove them.

Do I have to set it again for each film? No. The picture format is saved on the device and applies to every film, episode and channel until you change it.
