IPTV remote control tips: Siri Remote, Fire TV and more

A few remote shortcuts change how fast you move around an IPTV player. The ones that work in Klyvo Play on Apple TV and Fire TV, and the system tricks worth knowing.

The best IPTV remote control tips are simple: OK opens, Back goes back one level, ⏪ / ⏩ jump 10 seconds in films on a Fire TV remote, and CH+ / CH− or the number keys change channel on remotes that have them. Add two or three system tricks — typing from your phone, the quick menu, re-pairing a remote — and an IPTV player becomes much faster to use from the sofa. This guide lists what works in Klyvo Play on the Siri Remote (Apple TV), the Fire TV remote and box remotes, button by button.

Klyvo Play is a player. It provides no channel, film or series: you connect the service you already have and are authorized to use, with its Xtream login or its M3U link.

The basics: moving around a TV IPTV app

Klyvo Play's TV interface on Apple TV and Fire TV uses a side menu with Search, Home, Live, TV Guide, Films, Series, My List and Settings. Everything is reachable with the arrows (or the clickpad) and OK. A highlighted focus shows where you are, and small hints at the bottom of some screens remind you what each button does there.

  • Arrows / clickpad: move between items, row by row and poster by poster.
  • OK (select): open a category, a channel, a film or an episode.
  • Back: go back one level. In the side menu, Back at the top level leaves the app, as with any app.
  • On Fire TV, the ≡ (menu) key is not Back: use the Back arrow key to go back.

Live TV: Back, channel keys and numbers

In the live player on a TV, the bottom panel shows what is on now and next when your service provides a guide, with buttons for Audio and subtitles (when the channel has several tracks), My list and the picture format. The remote behaves like a TV set's:

  • First Back hides the panel, the next Back leaves the player. If the Audio and subtitles panel is open, Back closes it first — you never lose the channel by accident.
  • CH+ / CH− (on remotes that have them, such as many Android-based box and operator remotes) move to the next or previous channel of the list you opened the channel from. The target number and name show at the top while you press; only the channel you stop on opens, so a quick burst of presses does not open — and drop — a stream at every step.
  • Number keys open a channel by its position in that list: press 1 then 2 for line 12.
  • INFO (box remotes) shows or hides the programme panel.

Channel keys and numbers work for a channel opened from a list in Live; a channel started from Home, the guide or search has no list position to zap from. The Siri Remote and most Fire TV remotes have no channel keys: go back to the list or use the guide.

Films and series: pause, skip and scrub

  • Play/Pause pauses and resumes. On remotes with separate Play and Pause keys, both work.
  • ⏪ / ⏩ on a Fire TV remote jump back or forward 10 seconds per press, and the controls show where the jump landed.
  • Left / right arrows on the timeline move by 10 seconds too; on Fire TV, holding the arrow keeps moving, for longer jumps.
  • OK in the player toggles play and pause; Back leaves the film.
  • Continue watching on Home brings back any film or episode you stopped, at the right moment.

Subtitles and audio tracks are chosen in the player's track panel — useful for a film in original version. Read subtitles and audio tracks for details.

Siri Remote tips on Apple TV

  • Back (or MENU on older Siri Remotes) goes back one level; at the root of an app it returns to the Apple TV home screen.
  • Press the TV button twice to open the app switcher and jump back to Klyvo Play after checking another app.
  • Hold the TV button to open Control Center, where you can put the Apple TV to sleep or switch user.
  • Touch Surface Tracking, under Settings → Remotes and Devices, makes the clickpad faster or slower in long lists.
  • Type from your iPhone: when a text field appears on the Apple TV, an iPhone nearby can offer a keyboard notification, much faster than the on-screen keyboard.
  • Dictation: on Siri Remotes, hold the microphone button in a text field to dictate, where your language and region support it.

Fire TV remote tips

  • Hold Home to open the quick menu: sleep, settings and other shortcuts.
  • The Fire TV mobile app turns your phone into a remote with a keyboard — handy for search.
  • TV controls: if your Fire TV remote has volume and power buttons, the Equipment Control settings can set them up for your TV or soundbar.
  • Re-pair a remote that stops responding: change the batteries, then hold Home for about ten seconds near the device, or add it again under Settings → Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.
  • Bluetooth means no aiming: Fire TV remotes and the Siri Remote work even if the device is hidden behind the TV.

Type less: the device codes trick

The most tiring remote task is typing a server address, a username and a long password with an on-screen keyboard. Klyvo Play avoids it: each installation shows an address in MAC format and a Device Key, and you — or your reseller — attach the playlist to these codes on the client portal from a phone or computer. The TV picks it up on its own, with nothing to type. If you do type it, confirming a field moves to the next one. The portal is explained in manage your playlists with your MAC address and Device Key.

Get to things faster

  • Search in the side menu finds channels, films and series as you type — quicker than scrolling a playlist of thousands of channels.
  • My list: add the channels and films you watch often; on a TV, the live player's My list button adds the channel on air.
  • Choose up to three countries to put their channels first in Live; everything else stays under See all channels.
  • Multi-Live shows two live channels at once on devices with enough memory; see Multi-Live for how to move the sound between them.

A remote routine for match night

  1. On Home, the live scores ribbon shows the evening's matches at a glance.
  2. Open Live, pick the category and press OK on the channel.
  3. Press Back once to hide the panel and enjoy a clean picture; press OK to bring it back.
  4. Add the channel with the player's My list button, so it is one click away next time.
  5. Two matches at once? Go back to the category and start Multi-Live, then choose which picture gets the sound.

It takes a few evenings for these gestures to become automatic, and then the remote disappears from your mind — which is exactly what a good TV app should allow.

FAQ

Why does the ≡ button not go back on my Fire TV? On Fire TV, ≡ is a separate menu key. Use the Back arrow key.

Can I change channel with CH+ / CH− on a Siri Remote? The Siri Remote has no channel keys. Go back to the channel list or use the TV guide.

Why do number keys do nothing on a channel opened from Home? Numbers follow the list the channel was opened from. Open the channel from a category in Live to use them.

How far does ⏩ jump in a film? Ten seconds per press on a Fire TV remote; hold the right arrow on the timeline for longer jumps.

Do I have to type my login with the remote? No. Attach your playlist to the device codes on the client portal.

Conclusion
