IPTV on Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense TVs: what works

Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense TVs do not all run the same system. Here is how to find yours, and the honest answer on IPTV with Klyvo Play for each case.

Can you watch IPTV on a Sony, Philips, TCL or Hisense TV with Klyvo Play? It depends on the system inside the TV, not on the brand. Many of these TVs run Google TV or Android TV: Klyvo Play's TV app for them is coming soon on Google Play. Some run Fire TV built in: Klyvo Play installs today from the Amazon Appstore. Others run their own system, with no Klyvo Play app. In every case, the solution that works right now is to plug a Fire TV Stick or an Apple TV into an HDMI port of the TV. This guide helps you identify your TV's system and pick the right option.

Klyvo Play is a player. It provides no channel, film or series: you connect the service you already have and are authorized to use, with its Xtream login or its M3U link.

Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense: the system matters, not the brand

TV makers use different operating systems depending on the model, the year and the country. Two TVs of the same brand can run completely different systems. As a rough guide, and always depending on the model:

  • Sony TVs run Google TV on recent models, and Android TV on many older ones.
  • Philips TVs run Google TV or Android TV on many models, and other systems on some ranges.
  • TCL TVs often run Google TV, with other systems in some ranges and markets.
  • Hisense TVs often run the brand's own system, VIDAA; some models run Google TV, and in some countries there are TVs with Fire TV built in.

Fire TV built in also appears on TVs from several other brands in some countries. The key question is therefore: which app store does your TV use?

How to find out which system your TV runs

  1. Look at the home screen. Google TV shows a For you tab with recommendations from several apps. Android TV shows rows of apps and channels with a Google Play Store icon. Fire TV shows the Fire TV home screen with the Amazon Appstore.
  2. Open the app store. Google Play means Google TV or Android TV; the Amazon Appstore means Fire TV; any other store means the TV's own system.
  3. Check the settings. The TV's information or About page usually names the system and its version.
  4. Check the manual or the box, which often mention Google TV, Android TV or Fire TV.

Google TV and Android TV models: the app is coming soon

Klyvo Play has a real TV interface, already live on Apple TV and Fire TV, and its version for Android TV and Google TV on Google Play is coming soon. Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense TVs running Google TV or Android TV will use that app. Until it is listed, Google Play on your TV will not show Klyvo Play: the phone version is not offered on TVs, because Google Play only shows TV apps there. We advise against installing APK files from unknown sources to get around this — modified APKs are a known way to steal logins. The devices page always shows the current status, and IPTV on Google TV explains how setup will work.

You can get ready now. Keep your Xtream login or M3U link in a message you can copy from, install Klyvo Play on your phone or tablet and select Explore the demo to discover the interface with a royalty-free sample catalogue, and keep the client portal at hand: on launch day, the TV's two codes are all you will need to attach your playlist from your phone. In the meantime, a Fire TV Stick or an Apple TV on the same TV lets you watch tonight.

Fire TV built-in TVs: install Klyvo Play today

If your TV runs Fire TV, Klyvo Play is already available. Open Find on the home screen, search for Klyvo Play and download it from the Amazon Appstore. On first launch, the app shows an address in MAC format and a Device Key; attach your playlist to these codes on the client portal from your phone, or type your Xtream login or M3U link under Connect your source. These codes belong to the app installation, not to the TV's hardware. The full walkthrough is in install Klyvo Play on Fire TV.

TVs with their own system: plug in a streaming device

On TVs running VIDAA, or another system made by the TV brand, there is no Klyvo Play app. The same is true of Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) TVs, covered in IPTV on Samsung and LG smart TVs. The good news is that any TV with an HDMI input can run Klyvo Play through a small device:

  • A Fire TV Stick, from the Amazon Appstore. Choose a 4K model for a 4K TV, and avoid 1 GB sticks if you want Multi-Live (two channels at once). See IPTV on Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
  • An Apple TV, from the App Store, if you already use an iPhone or iPad: the subscription offered in the app through your Apple Account covers iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.
  • A Windows PC connected by HDMI, for occasional use.

Plug the device into an HDMI port that supports 4K HDR if you have a 4K TV, select that input, and the TV remote's HDMI-CEC function often lets you control the device's power and volume without juggling remotes. Still deciding between the two? Read Apple TV vs Fire TV Stick for IPTV.

IPTV picture and sound tips for Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense

  • Enable the enhanced HDMI signal for the port you use (the name varies by brand), so 4K HDR from the device can reach the panel.
  • Choose the TV's cinema or filmmaker picture mode for films, and limit heavy motion smoothing if faces look artificial.
  • Leave the device's resolution on Auto, and set dynamic range to switch only for HDR content, so SDR channels keep natural colours.
  • In Klyvo Play, the picture fits the screen by default on TV; switch to fill in the player if you prefer no black bars.
  • Run Settings → Connection & stream test to see whether your line handles 4K, HD or SD before blaming the TV.

What you get once Klyvo Play runs on your TV

Whichever path you take, the app is the same. Live TV is organized by category and bouquet, with up to three countries first and See all channels for the full list, loaded only on demand. Films and series come with posters, seasons and episodes, Continue watching and My list. The TV guide shows what is on when your service provides it, and catch-up lets you go back in time when your service supports it. Family profiles, a Kids profile and a parental PIN keep things tidy for everyone. The VLC-based player handles MKV, HEVC/H.265, AVI and Dolby or DTS audio, with subtitles and audio track choice.
